Re: What are GIN and FIN files?
Very good question, so good, I gave it its own thread.
GIN Files:
These are files which our calibration software GWv4 uses to translate the information coming from the ECU. It tells the software what maps/tables/parameters the ECU has so can display them correctly. It allows the software to support any number of ECUs and versions without its self being changed/updated. Whilst GWv4 now is supplied with a large number of GIN files, newer files may be missing. GIN files are generally only used by our ECU and diff controllers, but some data-loggers may also use them.
FIN File:
Firmware files by another name. These are a compiled binary version of the actual software which runs inside the product itself. This can be uploaded (with extreme caution!) to a product and will change in some way how the product works. They are often provided by GEMS to provide new features or fixes to existing products.
Hope this makes things clearer for you and others.
Thanks
