The SUB85 family of firmware was able to run in various Subaru Plug and play models that GEMS manufactured some years ago, dependent upon the PCB issue.

The SUB85 firmware (or EPROM) will run in the Subaru2002(issue d), Subaru1999 (issue c) Subaru1996(issue c) PCB's respectively.

Hope that this helps, RickS

Sorry, that doesn't really help...
I'm wanting to know the difference in functionality/application between say an ECU marked Sub85 and one marked SUBARUK2. Is the K2 for a specific application (DBW, AVCS etc.)? I've not come across it before but have a customer with one who wants to put it on a 2002 UK Impreza. Thanks.

Sorry for the delay but you haven't been forgotten.
I have to get into get into our archive for any documentation on this product as this is not a current product of ours any more. I will post what I find here when I find something suitable and hopefully it will helpful.

These are 'legacy' products, which, if possible we continue to support only.

What I have obtained from senior members of staff is, the main differences between Subaruk2 (which was EPROM based unit) and the latest Subaru 2002 running the Sub85 firmware, is with greater flexibility in assigning inputs and outputs, faster processing and in system programming allowing end user to upgrade, better logging and more flexible with telemetry setups.

Attached, is the only product information that I can lay my hands on but I might be able to rustle up an old manual, if it is not already on the forum somewhere....

I think I understand. So the K2 is an older generation product with slightly less capability but fundamentally capable of running the same engine?

A little history for you. the Subaru 2k was for the newer 2001 to...maybe it was 2007 ecu's, it used a ROM chip vs the newer EPROM design.

The features are not THAT different. but the 2K ecu used a different method, (both hardware and software) to read the engine poisoning sensors and calculate RPM and ignition timing, many people including my self had issues with them, not starting or a host of other problems. the 2K was updated a few times if i remember correctly and think most of the problems were sorted out. But it was dropped/retired in favor over the newer ecu design that my self included upgraded to.

Don't nail me to the cross for this info being 100% as it was a stretch of the aging brain cells.
