Rev Limit is not constant
Moderators:R!C0, JonMan, RickS
I have a MiniDLS (G1.16 & ZETEC ENGINE).
However, the Rev. Limit of the engine is not constant.
It changes between 7,000 rpm and 6,000 rpm.
(The specifications of this engine seem to be 7,200 rpm)
In the present situation, I cannot use the full performance of the engine.
Because I want to improve this situation, I request your advice.
Additional information: it is not wired with the sensor of the air
temperature and coolant temperature since I have owned it.
Best regards,
Aki7

Re: Rev Limit is not constant
Hi
I've never seen any problem like this on the mini DLS before so i'm unsure of how to proceed forward. What's the resitance value accross the Crankshaft position sensor if you disconnect it with the engine not running? Also check all you Earthing points are good if you have not done so already.
In order to change the rev limiter to 7200 (if it is not already) you'll either need to connect to it with our new software GWv3 (but this is £240) or i can send you the DOS based program to connect to it for free then you can make your own cable or we can send you one(£25). However the better option might be to send it back to us so we can test it and trace any problems that might be in the ECU, we could also change the rev limit here.
I hope this helps

Re: Rev Limit is not constant
Hello,
The resistance value of the Crankshaft position sensor is about 400 ohm.
And I will add an earthing point.
When the engine off, I have another problem.
The tachometer goes all the way up to full scale of 8,000 rpm when I depress the throttle pedal.
Therefore I have to reset the peak value memorized to the tachometer(STACK ST500) every time after running the engine.
Please explain to me your recommended method for doing so.
Best regards,
Aki7

Re: Rev Limit is not constant
When the MiniDLS is has power but the engine is stationary the tacho output acts as a meter showing the position of the throttle pot, this is so that the throttle pot can be calibrated without the need of a laptop. Just make sure that that thottle is not pressed before the engine is started, once the engine is running the tacho output returns to normal functionality.

Hi,
Because my ZETEC engine is with carburetors, it is necessary to depress the throttle pedal before starting the engine.
When I depress the throttle pedal a little, the tachometer shows a full scale promptly.
Please explain to me your method for the calibration of the throttle position sensor.
Best regards,
Aki7

Re: Rev Limit is not constant
This will happen as it is very sensitive. To set up the thottle:When I depress the throttle pedal a little, the tachometer shows a full scale promptly.
Please explain to me your method for the calibration of the throttle position sensor.
Once a smooth idle has been achieved, turn the engine off, check the tacho position this should be around 3, no higher than 4 with no pressure on the throttle. To adjust this adjust the throttle pot which is attached to the carburetor, by losening the two screws and turning the pot round until the tacho reads 3,000rpm, and then tighten the screws back up.
As this is soley an ignition unit, this is not essential.
This feature is built into the unit so can not be turned off but you could add a switch in the line between the ecu and the tacho, you could then switch off before starting, then switch on when the engine is running so your tacho memory is preserved.

Re: Rev Limit is not constant
Hi,
I tried your advice.
However, I was not able to adjust it to 3,000rpm.
It becomes either 2,800rpm or 4,000rpm.
Because it is very critical during 2,800rpm and 4,000rpm.
Is this normal?
Additionally, the ground of Crankshaft position sensor was connected to pin 4 (Analogue ground for sensors), but had better change it to pin 15?
The ground of Trottle pot is connected to pin 4, too.
Thank you for your help.
Best regards,
Aki7

Re: Rev Limit is not constant
Hi,
The throttle output to the tacho is very sensitive so it is possible this will occur. Get it as close as possible (2800) and it will be fine.
The crank sensor should be grounded to pin 15 yes. I pressume you are using an inductance type sensor.
Hope this helps

Re: Rev Limit is not constant
Hi,
I bought GWv4 recently, but a PC cannot communicate with ECU.
The same error occurs when I use USB-Serial convertor in a USB port or when I use a RS-232C cable in a COM1 port.
Those errors are "Error: Rx Parity Framing Break", "Error: Rx Framing Break".
My setting is "Baud:9600, Data: 8, Parity: none, Stop:1, Xon/Xoff or none".
And GWv4 does not detect it with Baud as an "Auto mode" either.
Please teach a method to confirm that ECU is not trouble to me.
Best Regards

Re: Rev Limit is not constant
I've tested this on the bench and can connect successfully with GWv4.
Please try setting up the port explicitly from the connection settings dialog.
Go to:
ECU > Connection Settings....
Click the 'advanced' tab and pick 'COM Port' from the port selection box.
Select '9600' as the baud rate.
Click 'ok'.
With the ECU OFF, try to connect to the ECU. Once GWv4 is attempting to connect, power up the ECU. This should avoid any problems should the ECU enter into telemetry mode whilst connecting.
If this doesn't work, then please consult the 'trouble shooting' section in the GWv4 help file (press F1 in GWv4) and try the things mentioned in there.

Hi Pete,
Thank you for your advice.
I tried them according to your advice, but failed in connection.
Therefore I sent my ECU by EMS to Ed today.
Please check my ECU.
Best Regards
