Lancer Evo 6 idle
Moderators:R!C0, JonMan, RickS
Hi,
Ecu is Lancer E6 v2.28.
When the car idles, it is fine but when the second fan turns on, then fuel mixture goes lean from 14,7 to around 15.7 or so. What could cause this? Battery is fine and there is no voltage drop.
What are the options that modify idle fuel?
Thanks and regards,
Rain

Re: Lancer Evo 6 idle
Try disconnecting the secondary fan. See what happens then.
Also what happens to the parameter Fuel Pulse when this occurs?
Thanks

Re: Lancer Evo 6 idle
Its actually 2 fans coming on at the same time, its the Fan low speed option, when coolant rises up to 85 degrees.
Fuel pulse at idle is around 1050, but at the time when fans come on, fuel pulse rises up to 1300. But it still goes lean for some reason. And it also sometimes dies after driving when you let it idle and the fans come on.
Also one thing, when at idle, I press the throttle suddenly, then at first it goes lean and then to rich.

Re: Lancer Evo 6 idle
Was just testing it and after driving around a little and then let it idle, the car stalled. Fuel pulse jumped up to 10 000. And the second time , it jumped up to 2500 and went very rich. What could cause this rich/lean situation when the fans come on?
What options control the idle fuel beside fuel map? I added my cal file and maeby you can take a look, if there is something wrong?

Re: Lancer Evo 6 idle
Hi Rain,
Everything for idle seems to be set up ok, but see attached calibration. We have made some slight changes which might help:
- Increased fuel slightly at low load and revs
- Cool Idle Table: Increased to 1000rpm at higher temp
- Extended spark scatter to lower speeds
- Modified some accel fuel settings
You can look at the changes made by going to File > Compare Calibration
One thing you do need to check for idle is that the throttle is set up properly so that it is actually going into idle:
- Bring up parameter TPS raw
- Press throttle fully down. Note value of tps
- Fully release throttle. Note value of tps
- Then make sure the options TPS Min and TPS max correspond to the values you noted
- Now look at the parameter Thottle. Make sure this is going to zero when off the throttle
- The option Idle Throttle sets the degree of throttle at which idle comes on. The Throttle parameter must go below the Value in Idle Throttle for Idle to come on.
If you are still having problems we will need to get a datalog of some of the parameters to see whats happening, most notably when it is stalling. Please log the following:
- Idle C Off
- Idle Counter
- Idle Mod
- Idle Set
- Idle Set Spd
- Idle Speed
- Idle Target
- Engine Speed
- LOAD
- Fuel Pulse
- Spark#A
To setup logging, connect to the Ecu, bring up a list of the parameters outline above, then goto Logging > Start.

Rico

Re: Lancer Evo 6 idle
Thanks. It was much better now!
Just in case 2 logging sessions also. Maeby you can see, if something needs to be finetuned.
Had to change the extensions of the files from stf -> cal , since forum did not let me upload these otherway.
Best regards,
Rain

Hi Rain,
Glad its working better.
The log all looks OK. Let us know if you need any more help.
