Sequencial Gearbox on Evo 8
Moderators:R!C0, JonMan, RickS
Hi there
i get a request to install a sequencial gearbox into a Evo 8
this car have a Gems ecu installed, for now, i dont know the version of the ecu because i dont have the car with me,
does the gems ecu support an input for the gear switch/load cell, and activate the FTG on this ecu?
i read on the manual, only a spark retard mode, not torque cut, is that correct?
im a little bit messy about the input pins for this ecu.
regards

Re: Sequencial Gearbox on Evo 8
The 'Switch Torque Reduction' feature in the EVO 8 (firmware dependent) is the only aid to gear change in this ECU.
This is 'triggered' by a switch and not strain gauge.

Re: Sequencial Gearbox on Evo 8
sooo
a full torque reduction with ignition cut, during (x) milisec, etc etc, not possible, only ignition retard, correct?
ok, thanks

Re: Sequencial Gearbox on Evo 8
Correct - Torque reduction is through timed ignition retard only.

Not sure what firmware you are running. but here is a screen shot of a customers car.
Cut time is taken from a closed loop controller ( geartronics )

Re: Sequencial Gearbox on Evo 8
A very good point, well made.
There was a crossover point between Lancer8, 8+ & 9+ where a 'cut' option was also available but as mentioned, it is dependent upon which version of firmware is being run in the ECU. Lancer8 on S2.67 - S2.80 firmware (very common) only has retard functional.
If the ECU is running Lancer8+ , then the gear control became more involved and 'cut' did become an option. To be certain, we would need to confirm what the serial number of the unit is and if possible what firmware is installed (label on the EPROM), so that we can be certain if 'cut' can be setup.
