Re: logging Setup for Garmin GPS 18x5hz
Just received an e-mail notification that there was a new reply to this (old) topic, but I see nothing new here. Is the server playing up? Thanks, and happy New Year.

Re: PCMCIA cards and modern laptops
OK, thanks RickS, much appreciated. I have lost the note I made of the logger serial numbers and firmware versions labelled on the chips, when I find it I'll post up, I am pretty sure one of the staff at GEMS said there were at least two firmware updates available since mine were released. A 1 Gb ca...

Re: PCMCIA cards and modern laptops
Not sure I follow, the new laptop is physically unable to connect to the card. The card enters the slot in the laptop, but cannot be made to accept the male pins of the contactor I assume is within the laptop. So a hardware issue. I am also a bit confused about what cards these loggers will write an...

Re: PCMCIA cards and modern laptops
A happy New Year to all at GEMS, too :) The old laptop was a Compaq Evo N600C, the newer one is a Dell Inspiron 1720. I have also asked about this on a computer forum, and they feel that the old PC ran a Card Bus slot that accepts PCMCIA cards, the newer one runs a different architecture, as do most...

PCMCIA cards and modern laptops
My data cards for my GEMS DA99-L2 loggers went into the card slot of my old laptop just fine and were read correctly. This laptop has now died and a later Dell with Card Bus won't accept the cards. they go into the slot but won't connect. I suspect it's incapable of reading these cards. what are my ...

Re: logging Setup for Garmin GPS 18x5hz
I will ask on the Motec forums what internal filtering is done, but meanwhile please see http://www.gatesgarth.com/motec_filters.png Thanks.

Re: logging Setup for Garmin GPS 18x5hz
I believe there *IS* some filtering in i2 as the same date renders both without the spikes and with a smooth contour to the track map, sans the tiny zig zags and occasional more major one. I will have a close look at the i2 stuff, and also mail Motec to see if they do, or will, share what sort of fi...

Re: logging Setup for Garmin GPS 18x5hz
I have zipped the log file up,and posted it at:

There's no rush, the car is put away for the winter now, but I would like to understand what is happening here, thanks Rick.

Re: logging Setup for Garmin GPS 18x5hz
Sorry Rick, the version is 4.0.2.0 Build 567 It does it when you review the log in its entirety, if you only select a mid section of laps the lines don't show. To clarify, I have run in on board data logging in my M800 alongside the external log from this ecu, via CAN to the GEMS logger. So the GEMS...

Re: logging Setup for Garmin GPS 18x5hz
Maybe you could comment on why, when logging to my DA99-L2 logger the track map shows these weird straight lines, which appear to be created before the car moves? If I select data from later in the log (say a second lap) the lines are not shown. Logging the same session and the same GPS data inside ...

Re: Air Temp correction
I wouldn't have thought it was a good idea not to read an air temp sensor and correct the maps for it, on any turbo engine. I certainly use one on my three turbo engines. Efficiency will improve, plus they give a nice safety net if the map adds fuel and reduces boost over say 60 degrees air temp. I ...

Re: logging Setup for Garmin GPS 18x5hz
I left the Garmin receiver set to the default settings, and it's been fine. If I can help at all, I will.

Re: logging Setup for Garmin GPS 18x5hz
I am logging that GPS receiver via CAN from my Motec M800 ECU. Motec have started suggesting that anything higher than 5 Hz be connected directly to their loggers or dash boards, and I think the reasoning is the GPS stuff uses a lot of processor power which they don't want diluting too much doing no...
